The Streets are Paved with Gold?

Not Really, but the East Hanover Community Partnership has gone out to bid and selected a contractor to begin the streetscape project that will enhance Ridgedale Ave for the businesses, appeal to pedestrians and create a “Village” atmosphere that will provide a “community place” for East Hanover. The project will be done in 3 phases. Phase I will include the area of Ridgedale Ave. between School Ave and Ronald Drive. It will include pavers, lighting, crosswalks and street furniture (benches, garbage and recycling cans) to help create a friendly pedestrian atmosphere. The Visual Committee is working on Phase II, which will include Barnida Drive through Grove Ave.

WEB SITE and Business Directory in the works!

The East Hanover Community Partnership marketing committee has developed this web site to be used for the following:

  • Business Directory/links
  • Web pages for the businesses/property owners
  • Farmers Market/Events
  • Calendar
  • Business regulations and process for opening a business in town
  • Business Practices information
  • Projects: Streetscape, etc
  • Geographical info
  • Vacancy info

A paper Business Directory will be published and will be mailed to all residences in East Hanover. It will categorize and list all of the businesses, and only the businesses in East Hanover, encouraging East Hanover residents to support the East Hanover Business Community.

Streetscape Project Q & A

Q. Who is paying for this streetscape project?

A. This project is being paid for in total by the Special Improvement District which is funded by a special assessment to all the commercial properties in East Hanover.

Q. If the SID budget is approximately $300,000 a year, how are they paying for the sidewalk work?

A. The Township of East Hanover is bonding the project and the SID will pay back the bond and any interest incurred. Because you need to have a rating in order to Bond, the Township is acting as the agent for this purpose. The Township is not paying any money towards this project, nor are they laying out any of the monies for reimbursement.

Q. Who designed this project?

A. This project was designed by a Landscape Design company hired and supervised by the SID Board of Directors. All design elements included are there to help improve the ability to do business in the area.

Q. Who is on the Board of Directors?

A. The Board is comprised of business owners, property owners, and residents who volunteer their time and energy to build and maintain a healthy business climate in East Hanover.

Q. Why is the SID doing this project?

A. The Board members of the SID held meetings with property owners and residents and listened to the need for East Hanover to have a business district that provides a “community place”.  Having a place that will provide an area for walking, pocket parks, good lighting and improved parking will help businesses thrive. Providing an attractive area encourages further investment in private property and business upgrades.
